1.   MALE INFERTILITY EXPLAINED

Male infertility is a major problem in the Western world today and it's getting worse by the year. Based on current scientific data there appears to be mounting evidence that there is a sound genetic basis for male infertility in some cases. This is more pronounced for men with abnormally low sperm count known as OLIGOSPERMIA and no sperm count at all known as AZOOSPERMIA. In both of these categories the cause appears to be due to spermatogenic failure. Recently science and medicine have shown that up to 20% of these men show either MICRODELETIONS on the Y chromosome or will have some CHROMOSOMAL ABNORMALITY

Microdetions on the Y chromosome are essential genes that are missing and are vital for normal sperm production. This genetic problem can be transferred to male offsprings indefinitely for generations to come. But the good news is that these microdeletions do not appear to affect future healthy embryos and future children. A simple blood test would detect these microdeletions known in medical jargon as the DAZ or Deletion Azospermia

Chromosomal Abnormality can be easily detected by a karyotype test which examines the chromosomes in a blood smear. Examples of abnormal karyotypes are XXY, known as Kleinfelter's Syndrome chromosome or transiolocations on autosomal chromosomes

Gossypol Toxin in Food De-activates Mens' Sperm
Just recently scientists have made a major discovery concerning missing sperm in men's semen.   The discovery was written in The Sunday Times on the 19 November 2006 on page 7.  The article says "Scientists have genetically modified the cotton plant's natural toxic seeds to turn them into a potential food source for millions of starving people around the world, estimated at around 500 million.  Researchers found a way of reducing gossypol, a powerful toxin in the cotton seeds, allowing them to be eaten by humans.  Gossypol is not just toxic but is also a powerful natural male contraceptive.  The sperm of men who eat foods containing gossypol, become de-activated."  In other words, sperm is de-activated or is no longer present in men's semen, thus rending men infertile!

RISK OF TESTICULAR CANCER
It has been shown that men with infertility and low sperm counts have a much highter rate of developing testicular cancer than the rest of the male population. So it's a good idea for men who have these conditions do regular self examinations of their testes. If there is a problem bring it to your GP's attention asap
