2. FEMALE INFERTILITY EXPLAINED
Women
over the age of 40 face a dramatic decline in the conception rate. This
is partly due to poorer egg quality and uterine receptivity thus
rending the embryo less likely to impact successfully. So what is the
success rate in % terms for different age groups of women conceiving
each month? The answer is as follows:
Ages 16-26 year olds have a 33% chance of conceiving
Ages 27-39 year olds have a 20% chance of conceiving
Ages 40-and over have just a 5% chance of conceiving
MEDICAL TREATMENT:
Older
women who require clomid or follicle stimulating hormones to achieve
ovulation often need much larger doses of these drugs because their
ovaries are not as responsive as they used to be
MISCARRIAGE RATES:
The miscarriage rate is around 20% but in much older women ie 40's and over, it can dramatically rise to 50%
FETAL ABNORMALITIES:
The incidence of fetal abnormalities also dramatically increases with the age of the expectant mother
PREGNANCY & OBSTETRIC COMPLICATIONS:
In older women ie 40's and over, pregnancy and obstetric complications increase dramatically
CAUSES OF FEMALE INFERTILITY:
Here are just some causes of female infertility
1.
Decreased or absent ovulation - that is to say the release of the egg
from the ovarian tube - which is commonly referred to as Ovarian
Syndrome
2. Immunological factors ie allergic problems or antibodies
3. The fallopian tubes have been damaged by inflammation, infection, adhesions or endometriosis
4. Endometriosis - a disease in which normal endometrial tissue grows outside the uterus instead of inside
